{"id":2575,"date":"2026-02-23T22:54:33","date_gmt":"2026-02-23T19:54:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/choosingme.co.ke\/?p=2575"},"modified":"2026-02-23T22:54:33","modified_gmt":"2026-02-23T19:54:33","slug":"why-calm-can-feel-unsafe-at-first","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/choosing.kangethe.tech\/?p=2575","title":{"rendered":"Why Calm Can Feel Unsafe At First"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There\u2019s something most people don\u2019t expect.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes peace doesn\u2019t feel peaceful.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes calm feels\u2026 exposed.<\/p>\n<p>Like you forgot to check something.<\/p>\n<p>Like you missed a threat.<\/p>\n<p>Like something is about to go wrong.<\/p>\n<p>And it can be confusing \u2014<\/p>\n<p>because you wanted this calm.<\/p>\n<p>You prayed for it.<\/p>\n<p>You worked for it.<\/p>\n<p>You were tired of chaos.<\/p>\n<p>But when calm finally shows up,<\/p>\n<p>your body doesn\u2019t relax the way you imagined.<\/p>\n<p>Because the body learns from repetition.<\/p>\n<p>Not logic.<\/p>\n<p>If you lived in stress for a long time,<\/p>\n<p>your nervous system learned:<\/p>\n<p>Alert = safe<\/p>\n<p>Scanning = safe<\/p>\n<p>Preparing = safe<\/p>\n<p>Tension = normal<\/p>\n<p>So when calm appears,<\/p>\n<p>your system doesn\u2019t recognize it as safety.<\/p>\n<p>It recognizes it as unfamiliar.<\/p>\n<p>And unfamiliar can feel dangerous \u2014<\/p>\n<p>even when it isn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>So the body tries to go back to what it knows.<\/p>\n<p>It creates tension.<\/p>\n<p>It creates thoughts.<\/p>\n<p>It creates scenarios.<\/p>\n<p>Just to recreate the feeling it understands.<\/p>\n<p>Not because it wants chaos.<\/p>\n<p>But because chaos is predictable.<\/p>\n<p>Calm has no script.<\/p>\n<p>No preparation.<\/p>\n<p>No warning signs.<\/p>\n<p>Just space.<\/p>\n<p>And space can feel uncomfortable<\/p>\n<p>if you\u2019ve never been allowed to rest inside it.<\/p>\n<p>So if calm feels strange,<\/p>\n<p>or makes you restless,<\/p>\n<p>or makes your mind louder \u2014<\/p>\n<p>You are not failing at peace.<\/p>\n<p>You are adjusting to it.<\/p>\n<p>The body is learning a new language.<\/p>\n<p>And new languages always feel awkward at first.<\/p>\n<p>You don\u2019t need to force yourself to feel peaceful.<\/p>\n<p>You don\u2019t need to perform calmness.<\/p>\n<p>You just need to stay.<\/p>\n<p>Stay in the quiet a little longer.<\/p>\n<p>Stay in the good moment a little longer.<\/p>\n<p>Stay in the absence of crisis a little longer.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s how the body learns.<\/p>\n<p>Not through convincing.<\/p>\n<p>Through experience.<\/p>\n<p>Calm becomes familiar<\/p>\n<p>one moment at a time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There\u2019s something most people don\u2019t expect.
